Crandall and Singer Speak at AEI Center for Regulatory and Market Studies Conference on Network Management April 2, 2008 Criterion founder Robert Crandall and President Hal Singer spoke at the April 2 conference, entitled “The Debate Over Network Management: An Economic Perspective.” The AEI Center for Regulatory and Market Studies Conference featured state-of-the-art policy discussion by top scholars in the area on the economic costs and benefits of imposing regulatory constraints on the management of high speed internet networks. Dr. Crandall spoke on the first panel, entitled “Management of Wireline Networks” and Dr. Singer spoke on the second panel, entitled “Management of Wireless Networks.” One key issue discussed was whether high speed internet providers should be allowed to charge content providers for a higher quality of service to support certain applications like video games. Another issue discussed was whether network managers should have the discretion to exclude or degrade specific applications used by customers to improve network advantage. Other panel participants included Jonathan Nuechterlein with WilmerHale, Jon Peha with Carnegie Mellon University, Michael Calabrese with the New America Foundation, Christopher Yoo with the University of Pennsylvania, and Thomas Hazlett with George Mason University.
