Professor David J. Teece is an Academic Affiliate of Criterion Economics and the Thomas W. Tusher Professor of Global Business at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. He is an authority on the theory of the firm and strategic management, the economics of innovation and technological change, knowledge management, technology transfer, and antitrust economics.

Professor Teece has served as an economic, business, and financial consultant for thirty years. He founded, and led as chairman, a company that grew to become the world’s largest economic consulting firm.

Professor Teece has testified before judges, juries, arbitrators, commissions, and tribunals in the United States and abroad in landmark antitrust, intellectual property, regulatory, and products liability matters. He has also testified before Congress, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Antitrust Division, and his work has been cited by the Supreme Court of the United States.

Professor Teece has also testified in some of the most consequential intellectual property litigation of the past two decades, including the Napster case on music file sharing.

Professor Teece earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, has held teaching and research positions at Stanford University and Oxford University, and has also received three honorary doctorates. Professor Teece is the author of more than 200 books and articles, and is the editor of the journal Industrial & Corporate Change, published by the Oxford University Press. His most recent book is Dynamic Capabilities and Strategic Management: Organizing for Innovation and Growth (Oxford University Press 2009).

According to Science Watch, Professor Teece is the lead author on the most cited article in economics and business worldwide between 1995 and 2005. He is also one of the ten most-cited scholars in economics and business for the decade, and he has been recognized by Accenture as one of the world's top 50 business intellectuals.
